MRG single malware tests
The infamous Malware Research Group has been running a couple of single malware detection tests since September 1st. So far a total number of 10 pests had to duel with 19 common security programs, here is a complete list of the sample names:
- HotKeysHook Keylogger (9 / 10)
- TDL3 Rootkit (8 / 11)
- TDSS Dropper (3 / 16)
- FakeAV Trojan (3 / 16)
- Zbot Trojan (7 / 12)
- FakeAlert Trojan ( 7 / 12)
- VLogger Trojan (5 / 14)
- Neeris Worm (8 / 11)
- “Here You Have” Email Worm (19 / 0)
- Zbot Trojan retest (12 / 7)
Within the brackets you can see how many programs passed or failed the detection test. As all malware files were the latest variants with a severe risk level the result is really harrowing. Even known and established tools like Kaspersky, Gdata or Norton were not able to detect all samples. Just one single program was able to stop 100% of the threats: Emsisoft Anti-Malware.
