The Malware Research Group has been hard-working again and published a new test recently. This time the topic was PUA – potentially unwanted applications. Common security programs had to detect them in one of these four situations:
1) When the installer is downloaded via Internet Explorer
2) During an on demand scan of the installer
3) When the PUA is installed by executing the installer
4) On execution of the PUA itself
Four different unwanted applications were used: Adware Bot, Anti Spyware , Registry Clear, Error Smart.
Out of 18 standalone Anti-Malware applications only six detected all of these four. And the winners are:
Emsisoft Anti-Malware
BluePoint Security
Eset Nod32 Antivirus
