Emsisoft Anti-Malware achieves 100% detection in Q1 2013 MRG Effitas real time protection test
In 2013 the independent antivirus testing agency MRG-Effitas is continuing their Flash test series. It is now known as MRG Effitas Real Time Protection Testing Project and the main difference is the greatly increased number of malware samples and higher testing frequency. 50 unique and dangerous malware samples are used every week.
A total of 17 well known security applications were tested on Windows 7 32bit in the first quarter of 2013. All test samples represent current zero day threats. The largest malware categories included in the test were trojans and financial malware, followed by ransomware, PUA (Potentially Unwanted Applications) and rootkits.
As one of only three programs to finish the test with a clean sheet, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was able to protect against every one of the 585 samples used.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware proves 100% detection of zero-day-threats
The independent IT security research organisation MRG-Effitas completed their Flash Test Series by the end of 2012. A total of 350 samples no older than 1 hour were used, with the test subjects having to prove whether they were capable of blocking brand new so-called zero-day-threats. In a second phase, the time in the wild was extended to 6 hours to see how the vendors reacted over a longer time frame. 18 different security applications participated in this test series.
Only 3 out of the 18 programs were able to block 100% of all samples being used. Amongst them: Emsisoft Anti-Malware, keeping a clean sheet and proving its effectiveness against any kind of malicious software.

Study shows that most Anti-Virus programs fail to guard against new threats
A detailed study conducted by the data security company Imperva has now shown that the vast majority of Anti-Virus solutions fail to detect new malware. The initial detection rate of a newly created virus is less than 5% with only Avast and Emsisoft providing reliable protection out of 40 vendors.
Even more alarming, is the fact that more than 75% of all security programs took up to a month or longer to add these threats to their signature lists. This means that users of the most common and well known Anti-Virus suites are left completely unprotected, with their computers providing an easy target for hackers.
Imperva used 82 different samples for this study, collected by honeypots, Google search and hacker forums. Vendor detection was verified by an upload to VirusTotal, so all scan engines were up-to-date and able to check the file simultaneously. Conclusion: Reliable real-time protection is more important than ever. Over recent years, Emsisoft has proven an excellent detection rate of both known and unknown malware.

VB100 award December for Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0
For the final time in 2012 Virus Bulletin has published the results of their eminently respectable test series. The review is based on Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 8 Pro using 700,000 files belonging to normal programs and about 20,000 malicious samples no older than three weeks. 33 different security programs had to prove their detection rates without causing false positives.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 detected 100% of all samples in the standard and the extended wildlist with both the on-demand and on-access scan! This is a perfect result, especially given the fact that not a single false positive occurred.
Therefore the Austrian-based program achieved the VB100 award, one of the most important honors in the world of security software.
The overall result for 2012 is very good for Emsisoft too, as you can see in the RAP chart below. The y-axis represents reactive detection, meaning new samples no older than 3 weeks. This is an indicator of how quickly a vendor creates new signatures. Proactive detection on the x-axis represents the amount of malware that is detected after 1 week without signature updates.

Emsisoft still leading in MRG test series
MRG Effitas has recently continued their test series using single zero day / early life malware samples. This ongoing series helps to assess how security solutions react to new and unknown threats. The longer the test period, the more meaningful the result – so every update is quite interesting. A total of 20 security programs has been tested so far.
The latest tests were based on a fully updated Windows 7 32 bit Ultimate virtual machine, with each candidate of course being tested on a separate VM. Samples came directly from MRG honeypots and were then uploaded to a certain URL so that they could be downloaded to the VM by using Internet Explorer.
The result:
Once again Emsisoft Anti-Malware was able to prove its great detection rate against brand new malware. It is also very interesting that well established programs like AVG Antivirus or Avira Antivir Premium show strong weaknesses in detecting current threats. You can find the full test results here.

MRG Effitas continues Flash Test series
MRG Effitas is a UK based, independent IT security research organisation which organizes an ongoing so called flash tests series. The purpose is to assess how security applications react to zero day threats. This is very useful as new malware usually spreads the most within one week of its release.
Since June 29th, 18 different security programs had to compete with a total of 120 brand new samples. Only three of the probands were able to show a clean sheet with a detection rate of 100% – first of all Emsisoft Anti-Malware with the strong combination of a dual-engine signature scan and behavior analysis.
The complete test can be found here: Average detection rate in MRG Effitas Flash Test Project 201.
