A few days ago, the famous Russian web portal COMSS published their January 2013 antivirus test results. With a total of 46 participants this is one of the most comprehensive reviews we have seen in a while. Microsoft’s Windows 8 32-bit was used as the testing platform and the programs had to prove their efficiency in the following categories: overall detection, simulation tests, protection at start, anti-phishing and performance.

For the final time in 2012 Virus Bulletin has published the results of their eminently respectable test series. The review is based on Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 8 Pro using 700,000 files belonging to normal programs and about 20,000 malicious samples no older than three weeks. 33 different security programs had to prove their detection rates without causing false positives.

VB100 award December 2012Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 detected 100% of all samples in the standard and the extended wildlist with both the on-demand and on-access scan! This is a perfect result, especially given the fact that not a single false positive occurred.

Therefore the Austrian-based program achieved the VB100 award, one of the most important honors in the world of security software.

The overall result for 2012 is very good for Emsisoft too, as you can see in the RAP chart below. The y-axis represents reactive detection, meaning new samples no older than 3 weeks. This is an indicator of how quickly a vendor creates new signatures. Proactive detection on the x-axis represents the amount of malware that is detected after 1 week without signature updates.

Virus Bulletin runs some of the most respected tests in the Anti-Virus world as a neutral authority. One of those is a monthly test of programs that protect from malware which has been run on Windows 2008 Server
R2 SP1 for June 2012. The security tools in the test have to detect unexceptional all samples of a wild list and may not give a single false alert while scanning a huge amount of normal files. Therefore the VB100 Award is a decoration that is very hard to obtain and so only a few first-class security tools receive it.

We are proud to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has once again achieved the VB100 award in June 2012. Here are some excerpts of the result:

  • The current version measured 128MB, and installed with just a couple of clicks; the interface [...] is reasonably easy to navigate, providing a decent basic level of controls.
  • Speeds were very quick on demand, with generally very light overheadson access…
  • Detection rates were as excellent as we have come to expect from this product [...] with very impressive RAP and Response scores.
